A beautiful little garlic still life by Lady Rhoda Birley (1899 - 1981).
Birley purchased the Charleston Manor House in 1931 where she established a well known festival and created the famous gardens at the house which are still admired today. During this time she and her husband, the portrait painter Oswald Birley, became fringe members of the Bloomsbury Group.
